It struck me this morning that one of the few constants in life is the importance of fundamentals. I can well remember my junior high and high school basketball coach drilling the importance of fundamental basketball into our young heads - dribbling, proper shooting technique, passing - he was all about mastering the basics and we practiced them for hours at a time, 6 days per week. It was much the same when my mom dragged me to church on Sundays - learn the fundamentals and they will stay with you throughout your life they told us. So, we focused on memorizing the Ten Commandments...

Well, it’s not often I get to (try to) fill the Head Geek’s shoes, but Josh called me with some lame excuse about how he couldn’t update his blog today and asked me if I could fill in for him. He said something about his laptop being down, but he was kind of mumbling and it was really hard to hear him over all the video game noises in the background… Anyway, I succumbed to my inner Dogbert and gleefully replied that I would, knowing that this could be my big chance to turn “Geek Speak” into “Sparky’s Corner” or “SNMP Extravaganza”...

This week I've been out in Denver attending the annual IPv6 Summit put on by the Rocky Mountain IPv6 Task Force . It was a fantastic conference and the fact that it's free is almost too good to be true. I first got interested in this particular conference because two of the speakers are old buddies of mine from my days back at INS. Scott Hogg and Jeff Doyle are two of the sharpest people I've ever met and really know their stuff when it comes to IPv6. The content at the show was great but the best part was the collaboration that took place during the breaks and lunches...
